Tred Avon Yacht Sales, Inc. is a family owned and operated company. Please contact us if we can help you with any of your boating needs in your search for ether a new or used boat, or if you would like to charter one of our immaculate, privately owned sailboats or trawlers to explore the picturesque Chesapeake Bay! It has been and continues to be our goal to help customers find or charter the boat which is best for their needs. We really strive to give all of our customers personal attention however we may be assisting them. Our goal is to provide superior service through constant personal relationships with all of our customers.

Barry Starke started Tred Avon Yacht Sales, Inc. in the spring of 1993. Having enjoyed boating for many years on the New Jersey seashore, sailing the lakes in Pennsylvania, exploring the Chesapeake Bay and having just returned from a nine month cruise with his family aboard a 38 foot sailboat, he started Tred Avon Yacht Sales, Inc. as a boat brokerage firm, located at Bachelor's Point Marina, in Oxford, Maryland. A few years later, several boat owners approached Barry about starting a yacht charter business. A short while later, Choptank Charters, a division of Tred Avon Yacht Sales, Inc. was born. Mimi Starke became part of the company when the charter division was created, helping Barry when the summers were busy. Today she is the charter coordinator and oversees the booking and cleaning of all of the boats in the charter fleet. Through the years the fleet has changed and we have learned that it is better to have a smaller fleet of quality boats than to have a large fleet of ancient arks. After several more years brokering and charting boats, it was decided that we really wanted to find a line of new, quality sailboats which we could represent well, and which we felt gave buyers good value for their money. We became dealers for Com-Pac Yachts in the summer of 1997. Several years ago, we left Bachelor's Point and moved to our current office at 102 South Morris Street right in the heart of Oxford! Brett Starke joined the business full time in 2004, having helped out for many summers with Choptank Charters and selling Com-Pac Yachts at many boat shows, including the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD for many years. Today he helps to assist in the sales department as well as help keep the charters running smoothly. The Starke's have all been sailing for many years, having sailed on lakes in Pennsylvania, racing both large and small boats on the Chesapeake Bay, and living aboard our boat during our nine month cruise to the Bahamas in 1991-1992. Through the years, we have enjoyed learning a great deal about the marine industry through experience, and we are happy to help you begin your adventure. It has been a great sail and today we look forward to helping you begin your boating adventure!

John Thoman, a licensed United States Coast Guard captain and past division captain of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, helps us part time with captained sails and ensuring proper check-outs on our charter boats. In addition John is a vessel examiner for all USCG vessel safety checks.

Edward (Ted) Clucas of Miles Creek Marine, LLC. helps to keep all of the systems on our charter boats properly functioning and maintained, and guarantee that you have a fabulous vacation when chartering with us. Ted also helps in commissioning many of our new boats as well as maintaining multiple yachts in the Talbot County area.

Steve Roth of Bay Marine Services also helps to keep many of our boats in top running condition. For the past few years, Steve has been working for himself, but has had many, many years as a marine diesel mechanic. In addition to mechanics, Steve is a magician with fiberglass and has recently built a custom center console boat for one of his local customers.
