Who owns the boats in your fleet? All of the boats in our charter fleet are privately owned. We have set up our fleet this way for a number of reasons, but most importantly is that our owners use and take pride in their own boats when they are not out on charter! We truly believe that after many years in the yacht charter business, it is imperative that owners see and use their boats. If there is a problem which arises, they know first hand what is wrong and what needs to be done to correct the issue, so that the boat will be right when you step aboard for your charter! Other companies own their own fleets, and sometimes deferred maintenance a problem, and more frequent breakdowns are the result. We at Choptank Charters take pride in our fleet.

Why is your fleet relatively small? We offer only top quality, well maintained boats for charter, and they are sometimes hard to find. Experience has taught us that we are better off with a small fleet of quality boats, rather than having a larger fleet of boats in differing states of repair. In addition, Tred Avon Yacht Sales, Inc./Choptank Charters has several branches of business, including new boat sales, brokerage boat sales & charters, so we do not need to rely solely on the revenue of our charter fleet. We are family owned & operated and much of our repeat business knows that we take pride in the boats which we offer for charter, which is why they continue to charter with us every season!
- Where do your boats live, and where do we get aboard? The majority of our boats board and return at Mears Yacht Haven in Oxford, Maryland. Please note that our Grand Banks 36 “Pegasus” generally departs and returns to her home berth at Campbell’s Jack’s Point Marina here in Oxford, just a short trip up Town Creek. Many of our boats are moored permanently at Mears Yacht Haven, but if you wish to remain tied up in Oxford, please let us know so that we can assure you a berth during the busy summer season! If you are looking to come and go to the dock during your charter, please check with us to make sure that the boat you wish to charter has a permanent berth at Mears Yacht Haven or Campbell’s Jacks Point Marina.
